Comfort, fit and control of prefabricated foot orthoses

چکیده

Introduction: Prefabricated foot orthoses are being widely used in the management of foot and lower limb foot pathology (Landorf et al, 2001). There are many difference brands with many different design parameters available on the market for clinical use. They have been shown effective in the clinical management of pathology (Pfeffer et al, 1999; Landorf et al, 2003; Payne & Dawes, 2004). Given that there is a wide variety in the shape, material and other design parameters between the different types of prefabricated foot orthoses, there is very little evidence comparing the different design parameters. Previous work has shown that those prefabricated orthoses that have wedging under the heel are more likely to invert the rearfoot than those that do not have the wedging (Payne et al, 2002), but other design parameters have not been investigated. In view of this limited information on prefabricated foot orthoses, the aims of this project was to investigate the perceived comfort and the perceived control of the rearfoot from prefabricated foot orthoses available in the Australian market.

A study of the immediate effects of glycerine-filled insoles, contoured prefabricated orthoses and flat insoles on single-leg balance, gait patterns and perceived comfort in healthy adults

BACKGROUND Footwear interventions are often prescribed to assist with the management of lower limb pain, injury and disease. Commercially available shoe insoles and orthoses are increasingly incorporating novel design features to alleviate foot and lower limb symptoms, but this may be at a cost to optimal functional performance. This study compared the immediate effects of wearing glycerine-fil...

The Effect of Different Types of Foot Orthoses on Foot Plantar Pressure in Subjects with Plantar Fasciitis: A Literature Review

Objective Plantar fasciitis is a plantar fascia inflammation and one of the most common causes of heel pain, causing pain in the inner side of the heel bone. The purpose of this investigation was to analyze the effect of different foot orthoses on the distribution of foot pressure in patients with plantar fasciitis. Materials & Methods The systematic search of PubMed, Science Direct and Web of...

Contoured, prefabricated foot orthoses demonstrate comparable mechanical properties to contoured, customised foot orthoses: a plantar pressure study

BACKGROUND Foot orthoses have been demonstrated to be effective in the management of a range of conditions, but there is debate as to the benefits of customised foot orthoses over less expensive, prefabricated devices. METHODS In a randomised, cross-over trial, 15 flat-footed participants aged between 18 and 45 years were provided with semi-rigid, customised orthoses and semi-rigid, contoured...

Comfort and midfoot mobility rather than orthosis hardness or contouring influence their immediate effects on lower limb function in patients with anterior knee pain.

BACKGROUND Despite evidence for use of foot orthoses in the treatment of anterior knee pain, there is a paucity of research into their mechanisms of action. This study (i) determined the immediate lower limb kinematics and muscle activity adaptations, and (ii) evaluated the effect of individual's comfort and foot mobility. METHODS Forty individuals diagnosed with anterior knee pain were measu...

Are prefabricated foot orthoses still effective in reducing plantar pressures after 12 months of wear?

Background Foot problems are highly prevalent in older people, and prefabricated (‘off-the-shelf’) foot orthoses are frequently prescribed in this age-group. However, such devices are susceptible to material compression and deformation, which may reduce their effectiveness over time. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the difference in plantar pressures between prefabricated or...
